Bryan Smith

Bryan Smith is Vice-Chairman of Idaho Freedom Foundation. He is also a partner in the law firm, Smith, Driscoll and Associates, PLLC. This law firm does not appear to have a current working website, but an archive can be found here. He is also associated with two debt collection firms, Diversified Equity Systems and Medical Recovery Services (MRS), with at least partial ownership of MRS. The two companies have filed more than 10,000 lawsuits in Idaho as of 2014. MRS also shares offices with Smith, Driscoll and Associates.

In 2020, the Idaho Congress proposed a bill to curb the practices of Bryan Smith detailed in the East Idaho News reports in HB425, the "Idaho Patient Act". HB425 was introduced in the House Business Committee, where it stalled. It was re-introduced in Ways and Means as HB515, which passed and took effect January 1st, 2021.

Parrish Miller published an Idaho Freedom Foundation rating on HB425 of -9.

IFF President Wayne Hoffman wrote an article attacking the Idaho Patient Act.

As Smith is Vice-Chairman of the Idaho Freedom Foundation, and its bill ratings were employed against a bill that would impact Smith's business, it has the appearance of corruption.
